Carried babies cry less. Babies that are cuddled
close to a caregiver cry less than babies that spend a
large amount of time in bucket style carriers, playpens,
strollers, etc. When your baby is close he won't have
to make as much noise to get your attention, and you will
become aware of his need for food, diaper changes, cuddles,
etc. more quickly.
Carried babies are more alert. Babies that are
worn in a carrier are seeing the world from an adult point
of view, and adults will interact more with a baby they
have eye contact with. From this vantage point your baby
will gain a better understanding of the world around him.
Carried babies are safer. Protect your baby from
the unwanted touches of strangers by sharing your personal
space with him - a great way to keep him safe from germs
in cold and flu season. And no need to worry about where
baby is or if he's ok as he's right there snuggled close
to you.
Free your hands to care for older children. Wearing
your baby can make you more available for playtime with
older siblings. Being able to care for an infant and still
focus attention on your toddler can be a huge benefit
with siblings adjusting to having a new baby in the house.
Stop struggling with that stroller. Why wrestle
a stroller in and out of your trunk or up and down the
subway stairs when you can just pop baby in a carrier
and go?
Rest those tired arms. You're going to carry your
baby anyway, so why not get a little help? A baby carrier
distributes the weight across your body, making it much
more comfortable than juggling a baby in tired arms.
Get back to the laundry. Don't stress yourself
trying to fit in laundry at two in the morning when you
finally have some hands-free time. Using a carrier can
free up your hands for household chores, allowing you
to cuddle with your baby and get to work at the same time.
Nurse on the go. Imagine nursing your child at
the grocery store checkout with no one being the wiser!
Breastfeeding in a carrier can be discreet and easy with
just a little practice.
Get extra cuddles. Enjoy those sweet baby hugs
while you can. Time moves by much faster than we can imagine.
